The main part of the Galax Vaughan Bassett plant will be closed on Thursday, but five departments will be open:

  • Veneer Dept.
  • Shipping Dept.
  • The Glue Room
  • The Lumber Yard
  • VB2 (Vaughan Bassett plant #2)

A water tank ruptured this morning at the Vaughan Bassett Furniture plant in Galax temporarily evacuating employees.

Plant one was evacuated after the tank carrying around 200,000 gallons burst.

A worker suffered minor injuries and was treated for cuts and bruises at the hospital.

The tank was connected to the plant's sprinkler system.

Company officials say a small fire was put out near the tank that damaged the plant's dust and electrical system.

Shipping and office employees returned to work around 1 p.m., but manufacturing at the plant remains closed.

Engineers are on site working to repair any damage to the dust and electrical system and we are told it could take until Monday for manufacturing to return to normal.

Company leaders along with fire & rescue officials say one man was taken to the hospital with bruises as a precaution.

A water tank ruptured, and collapsed.  The plant is closed for the rest of the day, and will re-open on Thursday morning.
