10:40 p.m.

Virginia State Police continue their investigation into an officer involved shooting.

As we reported, the Montgomery County Sheriff department says deputies attempted to try a serve felony drug warrants to a home on Ridgeway Drive.

Officials say the suspect started shooting at officers after they showed up. That's when officers fired back at the suspect, killing that person.  The sheriff's department says none of the deputies or officers were injured in the exchange. 

Dozens of people live in this neighborhood and some were home when the shots were fired.  

"It is was weird came outside and seen all of the police going up the road . I couldn't believe that was happening, that is how it was couldn't believe it," says Robert Turpin. 

The suspect name has not been released.

5:15 p.m.

Montgomery Co. Sheriff's office says the incident took place on Ridgeway Drive, outside the Christiansburg town limits.

Officers were attempting to serve a felony drug warrant when a man took out a handgun and fired at officers, who returned fire.

5:00 p.m.

Investigators say shooting took place between 3:00-3:30 p.m. near Ellett Road, when Montgomery County deputies went to serve a warrant.

4:54 p.m.

A Christiansburg town spokesperson says the man started shooting at police, who returned fire and killed him.

The police are briefing reporters at Cambria Baptist Church; the shooting took place about a mile away.

Police tell WSLS that a shooting took place near Cambria Baptist Church. Officials are expected to release additional details this afternoon.
