Strong to severe storms possible tonight

Posted: Updated:

Showers and storms will move into the region this evening and overnight.  Some could produce strong winds and heavy rain.

There is a slight risk of severe weather for areas along and south of Highway 460.  While many storms will not be severe, some could produce wind gusts toward 60 mph.

The storms will enter the Interstate 77 corridor around 10 p.m. Thursday moving east to Highway 220 around 1 a.m. Friday then continue eastward to Highway 29 by 4 a.m.  the storms should move out of the region between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Friday.

Heavy rain is also possible from the storms moving through.  On average, half an inch to one inch of rain is expected, but isolated areas could see rain up to two inches.  The flash flood threat is low, but if some areas see even more rain than this, flash flooding could become a problem.

Cooler air will move into the region behind this storm system for Friday and the weekend.
