Blacksburg student uses crocheting to help mothers in need

Posted: Updated:

A Blacksburg High School senior is making a difference by giving 5,000 hours of her time volunteering.

Jessica Vance started crocheting baby items to give to local maternity wards and to a women's resource center back in 6th grade.

Fast-forward to now and Jessica just received a second national award for her efforts.

The thank you cards she gets are proof she is making a difference.

"There was one when I got a card and it said I had been to a resource center, and I didn't know if I wanted to have my baby, and they gave me one of your sets after I had an ultrasound, and the set just affirmed for me that I wanted this baby.  And so I was happy, because I set the groundwork for that baby to be accepted, and I was happy I could have a little part in that," she explained.

Jessica says she typically makes baby hats, boots, dresses, and blankets.
