Police investigating website posting in connection to NRV Mall shooting

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE, VA -

During a news conference Friday night, Christiansburg Police Chief Mark Sisson said investigators are looking into a website posting which seems to have been made minutes before a shooting at New River Community College.  Chief Sisson said Neil Allan MacInnis was currently in custody in connection to the shooting.

We found a posting made by someone claiming to be Neil MacInnis on the website 4Chan, a website/discussion board that's been around since 2003 according to its description. Users can post anonymously. 4Chan says it's become the largest forum in the U.S. and serves more than 22-million unique visitors a month and it's mainly popular among young men.

Police say this shooting happened at 1:55 p.m. According to the 4Chan message board, just minutes before the shooting someone claiming to be Neil MacInnis posted what looked like a picture from outside New River Community College.

"Hey /b/ it's time. My name is Neil MacInnis and I go to new river community college in Christiansburg Virginia. 10 minutes away from Virginia Tech. I'm gonna give y'all the details because the news never gets it right.

Stevens 320 shotgun. Buck shots and slugs Wanna listen?"

The post then went on to give a website where people could listen to police scanner traffic.

"I'm a bit nervous because I've never really handled a shotgun but a few times with the Christiansburg police. Anyways this is not a highscores game but actually a lesson (that's why I'm at school)."

The 4Chan user also posted a link to an e-portfolio to someone with the same name (Neil MacInnis) that had a resume, some background history and some samples of work.

WSLS contacted 4Chan for a statement, but have not received one.

Chief Sission confirmed MacInnis completed a Christiansburg citizen police academy course in 2012.
