UVA suspends fraternity

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia has suspended a fraternity amid an investigation into unspecified allegations.

U.Va. announced the suspension Friday of the Lamda chapter of Kappa Alpha Order, one of its oldest fraternity chapters. The suspension means the fraternity must cease all fraternal activities, including a charity lacrosse tournament that was scheduled for next weekend.

Jacob Pittman is president of U.Va.'s Inter-Fraternity Council. He told The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/12Vwcsi0 ) the length of the suspension hinges on the results of an investigation, which he declined to discuss. A 30-day suspension was also put in place by the group's national organization.

Rick Jones is the chapter's alumni sponsor. He said he received letters from the dean of students regarding the allegations, but he was not told of the specifics of the allegations.
