ROANOKE, VA -

A national hero has passed away in Roanoke.

According to an obituary in Saturday's Roanoke Times, Tuskegee Airmen member Dr. Dempsey Wesley Morgan Jr. died this past Thursday, April 11th from an extended illness.

Dr. Morgan was living at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, across the city line from the Salem VA Medical Center.

Morgan is survived by his wife, three daughters, and several grandchildren.

The obituary notes that his funeral will be held on Monday, April 15th, at noon, in the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home Chapel.  He will be interred at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Pulaski County.  Morgan will receive full military honors.  The family chose not to hold a public viewing.
