SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, VA -

A $1.4 million renovation project will transform The Waterfront County Club at Smith Mountain Lake.

Country club owner The Willard Companies, unveiled the plan on Monday.  According to the company, the renovation will include:

  • A new fitness center and pool building
  • Updating existing Club amenities such as relocating the swimming pool in closer proximity to the Clubhouse complex
  • Incorporating a new state-of-the-art fitness and recreational area for members
  • Creating a new short game area for the club
  • Adding a zero entry pool, lap pool, and diving area
  • Adding a lounge area in pool
  • Adding outdoor bar
  • Updating the fitness center (group exercise and weights)
  • Adding 4 Pickle Ball Courts
  • Adding 2 tennis courts,
  • Adding a short game area between the club and range

The Willard Companies says the time for groundbreaking and construction will depend on how quickly the club increases its members.  The number has to climb to the pre-recession level of around 400 in order for the plan to become a reality.

"The Private Clubs that are going to survive in the decades to come must change and adapt to the market demands," said Ron Willard II, Vice President of The Willard Companies.
