Blacksburg historians try to save old frat house

Posted: Updated:

An old fraternity house in Blacksburg could be torn down if historians in the town are not able to save it.

The old sigma phi epsilon house on clay street is selling for $700,000

the fraternity moved into their new house in January, and leaders say they've been unable to keep vandals out.

A permit has been requested to demolish the home, but town historians are pleading with the fraternity to preserve it.

"There's very few of these manor homes left. It's late 18th Century. The bricks are handmade, it's got good bones to this house," said Jack Davis, a member of the town's Historical Review Board.

Historians have asked fraternity leaders to delay any demolition plans.
