FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Authorities in Cumberland County have identified a body found last weekend as that of a Fayetteville woman reported missing in March.

The medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill confirmed the identity of 31-year-old Michelle Lynne Powell. Her body was found covered by trash behind the Boys and Girls Club building last Saturday.

Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said the body was so badly decomposed it had to be sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill. Tanna said dental records were used to confirm that it was Powell, adding that the cause of death hasn't been determined.

Tanna said Powell had suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed on the left side of her body.
