The Cool School for Thursday, April 18th is Blue Ridge Elementary School.
Blue Ridge Elementary School students have been very busy making a difference in the community and becoming great readers.
The school recently kicked off its Pennies for Patients campaign. The money raised benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Last year the school collected $1,500.
Blue Ridge Elementary just finished up its pop tab collection for the Ronald McDonald House. The tabs are weighed to determine their value. The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter a check for the total value. The school collected a total of 126 pounds of pop tabs.
The first graders recently finished an author study on Eric Carle. Their favorite books were The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Pancakes, Pancakes and The Very Busy Spider. After reading each book, the students completed activities related to the stories. The fun and educational activities helped them to learn more about the butterfly life cycle, the farm to plate process and the parts of a spider. Their book study even included fun snack treats like caterpillar cupcakes, pancakes with toppings, and cookie spiders.
The first graders will soon participate in Poem in a Pocket day. Students will write their own poems and share them with adults and students around the school.
