Blacksburg, Salem caregivers try to break diaper change record

Posted: Updated:

Mothers and fathers and caregivers around the world will join together to change diapers as part of the Great Cloth Diaper Change this weekend. It's a way to raise awareness of reusable cloth diapers.

Kendra McAllister and her husband started Wombat Wash, a cloth diaper service in the New River Valley as a way to give green families more options. She's organized Blacksburg's first Great Cloth Diaper Change" event in Saturday.

It's part of a world wide movement to get the word out about keeping disposable diapers out of landfills. At 11 a.m. local time, people across the country will try to break the record for changing the most reusable cloth diapers changes at the same time. There will also be informational classes at the local events if you'd like information.

"One of them will be a question and answer about cloth diapering and how to wash them which is a big question for a lot of people but then also people who are not cloth diapering-- if they pre register we'll provide them with cloth diapers." said McAllister.

The Great Cloth Diaper Change will take place at Kent Square in Blacksburg Saturday at 11 a.m. Doors open at 9:00 and you'll need to be registered to take part in the challenge by 10:30.

There will also be a change at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem.
