Wake schools looking at $911 million bond

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Wake County Public School System is looking at a $911 million school bond for this fall after a joint meeting Thursday with the Wake County Board of Commissioners.

On Thursday, the two boards looked at four different scenarios to pay for new schools and renovations.

In the scenarios, the schools would look for either:

  • $2.3 billion
  • $1.14 billion
  • $911.6 million
  • $663.2 million

The $911.6 million option was the one the boards settled on. It would fund six elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools. It would not include any additional year-round schools.

Of the $911.6 million, $424.7 million goes to new school construction, $265.9 million for renovations and $221 for support facilities and other items.

The school system would prefer a higher bond total, but the commissioners want to limit the costs to taxpayers.
