Virginia Tech students and staff get to show off their work on a national level.

It's meticulous work folding each tiny paper to create some spectacular.

This is Virginia Tech student Megan Gileza's first time working on a project hundreds of thousands of people will see.

"The idea of it when we first got it and started out it was really exciting because of the publicity and exposure we get and hearing about it its a great resume builder," Virginia Tech architecture student, Megan Gileza says.

She's part of a collaboration at Virginia Tech between architecture and engineering students who are building an interactive audio-visual lantern field for the Smithsonian Freer Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

"We've worked really hard. It's been an intense experience and lots of hours have gone into planning and testing and re-testing."Gileza says.

This is a project, assistant professor, Aki Ishida dreamt up. As people move beneath the paper lanterns,.the color of light and the sound moves in response.

"For most students, this is the first exposure of their work in the public realm." VT Architecture Professor, Aki Ishida says.

Now, the students who worked on this project will be even more prepared for the future.
