Roanoke Police Chief issues advisory for Blue Ridge Marathon

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE, VA -

Roanoke City Police Chief Chris Perkins released a letter to runners, volunteers, and spectators on Thursday, ahead of the Blue Ridge Marathon on Saturday.

In the letter, Chief Perkins advises that there will be a, "highly visible law enforcement presence" at the race.

Included in that will be K-9 units trained to sniff out explosives, crowd screening stations, and other safety measures.

Chief Perkins also warned that bags and packages may be inspected in certain locations in and around the race course, and it is recommended that you do not bring large bags, backpacks, or other carry-ons that have multiple compartments.

Also, runners are asked to not pre-position food or drinks along the race course.

As for parking, Roanoke Police will set up no parking zones on Friday afternoon.  Cars will be towed at the owner's expense.
