Dan River High School student arrested on weapons charges

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA -

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office says it's investigating why a high school student brought multiple weapons onto school grounds earlier this week.

Investigators say the School Resource Officer for Dan River High School arrested a student on Wednesday afternoon, April 17th, in the school parking lot.  The SRO says the student had:

  • A loaded shotgun
  • Additional ammunition for the shotgun
  • A knife
  • Brass knuckles
  • Untaxed alcohol

The case began Wednesday morning, when students at the school told the SRO that a suspended student was at school, and there were concerned.  Later in the day, school administrators told the SRO about the concern, and asked the deputy to be on the lookout.

The SRO spotted the student just before the end of the school day, in a parked vehicle near the football field.

The student has since been taken to W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Center in Danville, and faces a juvenile petition of felony possession of a loaded firearm while on school grounds.
