Vinton Relay for Life hoping for another strong year

Posted: Updated:
VINTON -

When it comes to charity one of the most giving communities locally is one you may not expect.

Last year Vinton's Relay for Life raised more than $100,000.

It's a number that becomes more impressive when you consider that Vinton raised the most Relay for Life money per capita in all of Virginia, averaging $13 per person.

organizers say they don't expect a drop off this year.

"You would think at the end of last year's event that the momentum would die down and that we would have to get that momentum picked back up again. But not here, not in Vinton. The people have been so supportive and have continued to fundraise and continued to fight."

So far they've already raised more than $55,000 ahead of Friday's event.
