Peaks of Otter to be operated by national resort company

Posted: Updated:

Blue Ridge Parkway Acting Superintendent Monika Mayr announced today that Delaware North Parks & Resorts at Peaks of Otter, Inc. has been awarded a concession contract for management of Peaks of Otter Lodge, Restaurant and Retail Stores at Parkway Milepost 86 near Bedford, VA.  This concessions contract will be issued for a term of 10 years.

In addition to the Lodge, Restaurant and retail stores, Delaware North will operate the Sharp Top Shuttle service.

Delaware North Companies Parks and Resorts currently operates concessions contracts at flagship national parks including the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Shenandoah National Park.

Parkway management is encouraging Delaware North to reach out to employees and the community and introduce themselves and their plans as soon as possible.  The Parkway is optimistic that the Lodge will reopen early this summer.

"This is great news for Bedford and for all of the Blue Ridge Parkway establishments that depend on a thriving season of activity. The Peaks of Otter is a key gateway to the beautiful Bedford area and we're relieved to know that such a reputable hospitality firm will manage and market the Lodge, Restaurant and Shuttle Services that are so vital to this overall destination. This news couldn't come at a better time just as the heavy tourism season is picking up and thousands of visitors will take advantage of the most breathtaking views in America" said Traci Blido, the Bedford County Economic Development Director.
