The Montgomery County jail confirms they are holding 19-year-old Michael Holmes, a running back on the Virginia Tech football team.

He is charged with two counts of assault and one count of malicious wounding and is under no bond.

Holmes is a red shirt sophomore who has been with the team for three years.

The Harrisonburg, VA native saw playing time in 2012, started five games for the Hokies while playing in eleven others.

WSLS is working to get more information about the arrest and what led to the charges.

Virginia Tech Associate Director for Athletics Communications Bryan Johnston says he hasn't been told about an arrest but felony arrests mean an automatic suspension from all team activities per university policies.
