A Senate Judiciary Committee is stepping up the issue of comprehensive immigration reform once again today. A bi-partisan group of senators released their legislative proposal last week, amid the Boston Marathon bombings but the 900 page immigration bill has faced growing questions from conservative critics.

The real test of commercial flight movement following furloughs of air traffic controllers will come today as traffic ramps up. Furloughs kicked in Sunday resulting from government spending cuts.

A traffic alert in Giles county today where a portion of Route 605 (Spruce Run Road) will be closed for construction through Thursday. VDOT crews are working on the bridge over Spruce Run Creek.

Salem Montessori students will ride bikes beginning at 8:55 this morning to raise money for the Mill Mountain Zoo. They'll also dedicate a peace pole.

Virginia Tech will celebrate Earth Day in part by planting a clone of the famous sycamore tree that stood on campus for more than a century. The tree will be planted this morning at 11:30 on Henderson Lawn.

Blacksburg Town Council will hold a public hearing tonight to discuss rezoning plans for the old Blacksburg Middle School property. The meeting is tonight at seven in council chambers.

Bluegrass group Infamous Stringdusters will perform at Radford University's Bondurant Auditorium tonight at seven. The band was nominated as entertainer of the year in 2011 by the Bluegrass Music Association.

    According to Roanoke City Police a shooting suspect is at large after one person was shot on the Roanoke River Greenway near the Ramada Inn on Franklin Road. Police say the victim has non-life threatening injuries. The call came in around 8:55.
