NC lawmakers hear about tax collections

Posted: Updated:

Tax day has come and gone, which means North Carolina legislators will soon have a better idea how much money they expect to have when assembling a state government budget for the next two years.

The General Assembly's top staff economist is scheduled Tuesday to address House and Senate finance committee members to discuss how state tax collections are progressing.

The Senate wants April 15 tax numbers before rolling out its spending proposal in May. The House will follow with its version. The two chambers want to get a final plan to Gov. Pat McCrory before the new year begins July 1.

Economist Barry Boardman already has said state revenues through March are $110 million above the targeted figure needed to carry out the current budget.
