The first funeral following the explosion in West, Texas last week will take place today. Captain Kenneth Harris, Jr., a veteran of the Dallas Fire Department, was volunteering at the time.

VDOT will hold a public information meeting on a project to replace the culverts on a section of Route 755 Union Church Road, in Bedford County tonight from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Montvale Public Library. You'll be able to ask questions about the project and detours.

A second beautification project will begin at the intersection of Williamson and Peters creek Roads this morning at 10. Friendship retirement community and the Williamson Road Area Business Association are working together with Friendship, putting $7,500 toward the landscaping project.

George Mason University Law Professor and Author Michael S. Greve will give free lecture on capitalism this morning at 10 at the Inn at Virginia Tech's Alumni Assembly Hall in Blacksburg. The talk is called "Our Colossal Federal Debt Versus the Constitution."

A Bedford County woman will receive a donated service dog this morning. Milk-Bone and Kroger are partnering with Canine Assistants to give Patricia Ring the trained service dog for free. She'll get her dog at the Forest Kroger at 11.

The Annual Vinton Dogwood Festival starts tonight. Festivities begin at 6:00 p.m..
