Turkey truck driver charged in Route 220 Henry County crash

HENRY COUNTY, VA -

7:12 p.m.

Virginia State Police charged the truck driver with failure to maintain control.

According to Sgt. Robert Carpentieri, of State Police's Salem division, the investigating trooper was told by 50-year-old Mark Robert Nepsa, of Monroe, North Carolina, that he was driving in the left lane around 6:15 a.m., when a car in the right lane came into his lane in a curve.

The tractor trailer went off the left side of the road, hit a guardrail, then flipped in the median.

State Police say Nepsa was not seriously hurt.

He was hauling turkeys to Harrisonburg.

VDOT says both northbound lanes of Route 220 are back open.

11:56 a.m.

VDOT says a tractor trailer hauling live turkeys crashed around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, in Henry County, and is currently blocking one northbound lane of Route 220.

The crash is in-between Martinsville and Oak Level, near where Route 220 and Route 669 intersect.

VDOT does not have an estimated time for clean-up.
