ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

A second Roanoke Valley intersection will look a little prettier, thanks to a joint effort of the Williamson Road Area Business Association (WRABA) and Friendship Retirement Community.

The WRABA dedicated a beautification project at the Williamson Road and Peters Creek Road intersection on Wednesday.

Friendship pledged $7,500 toward planting and maintenance for five years.

In 2012, Friendship pledged $8,500 for a similar beautification project at the intersection of Williamson Road and Plantation Road.

"Friendship Retirement Community understands the importance and value of the continued beautification of our neighborhoods and commercial thoroughfares," said President and CEO Russ Barksdale in a news release.

"WRABA is so pleased that Friendship saw a need and stepped up again to fund the project and confirm yet another five year maintenance plan," stated WRABA Executive Director Wendy Jones, in the release.  "It is a delight to work with a business that is so community conscious and willing to give back."

Both VDOT and the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors approved the project.

According to WRABA, drivers can expect to see:

  • Crape Myrtles
  • Yellow Forsythias
  • Barberries
  • Yellow Gold Mops
  • 150 perennials including Stella de Oro, Happy Returns, Ruby Stellas, Dianthus Firewitch, Astilbe Fanals and Coreopsis Moonbeam
  • 250 bulbs of a spring/summer/fall mix installed in the center island
