Service dog presented to woman at Forest Kroger

Posted: Updated:

Kroger, Milk Bone and Canine Assistance are working together to make a difference for woman with a debilitating disease.

Wednesday, the three companies presented Patty Ring with her own service dog at the Kroger in Forest.

Right now, Patty walks with a cane, but a service dog will help the 37-year-old woman maintain her independence in public and at home.

Organizers of Wednesday's event say this part of their job never gets old.

"It's amazing to me they saw something in that was worth helping out and I really just appreciate that," says Patty.

"It's a fantastic job.  Everywhere I go I see pleasure on every recipients face and it's just an honor and a pleasure to be a part of something like this," explained Fred Byer, Retail operations manager for Del Monte foods.

Patty will soon leave for Georgia where she'll meet her service dog face-to-face and go through two weeks of training before bringing the dog home.
