Family says Jamie Hahn was 'on top of the world'

Posted: Updated:

Murder victim Jamie Hahn lived a life that was "on top of the world," her family told WNCN Thursday.

As her family prepares to remember Hahn this weekend, WNCN spoke with them first from their South Carolina home Thursday, where family was gathered.

Her step-father, who considers Jamie his daughter, said bluntly, "She is my child. She was very special."

"We've lost a very beautiful daughter. We've been struggling with it," he said.

"She was just a wonderful person. She cared for everybody and everybody cared for her."

When talking about her life as a rising political operative, he said, "She was a very giving person, her job and everything she did was for the people."

"She was making her way in politics -- she was an up and rising star -- she was on top of the world."

On his Facebook page today, he wrote this message to friends and family: "God has other plans for my sweet girl. She is probably organizing something for the Lord; that was Jamie. I miss her so much."

Hahn died Wednesday after being stabbed Monday. Police have charged Jonathan Broyhill with the crime.

Broyhill remained in WakeMed Hospital Thursday afternoon.

A visitation for Hahn will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at Pullen Memorial.
