SALEM, VA -

The Salem V.A. takes tele-health to a whole new level starting May 6th.

Veterans will be able to travel to clinics closest to them for some exams that a doctor at the V.A. in Salem take part in through global cart technology.

A technician will use equipment at the clinics located across Southwest Virginia to take digital images of any skin lesions that may need attention and a doctor will look at those images and give recommendations in a real time fashion.

In the coming months the technology will allow doctors to listen to a patients heart from hundreds of miles away.

In addition to global cart technology, a new thirty one thousand square foot state of the art psychiatric ward will be finished this fall.

Chief of Staff Dr. Anne Hutchins has many other plans for the future of care incorporating local medical institutions as well.
