Mobile Laboratory rolls into Polymer Solutions in Blacksburg

Posted: Updated:

A total of 20 students came to Polymer Solutions (PSI) for a tour of the GoLab and to interact the scientists of PSI.

The GOlab is fully functional mobile laboratory used to demo the latest in analytical chemistry instrumentation.

The Director of Communications and Marketing for Polymer Solutions, Caitlyn Scaggs, says while half of the group toured the mobile lab the other half took part in a career panel discussion. A variety of backgrounds, degrees, and positions were represented amongst the PSI staff that participated.

The students were able to ask questions and get valuable advice from these science professionals.  Some of the questions asked were, "Did you know you wanted to work with Polymers when you started your college career?"  "What are some non-science classes I should take in college?" and "what is the most interesting project you've worked on?"

The students also learned more about an instrument that determined the sugar content of a soda.  They figured out the actual sugar content of the drink was slightly less than what is displayed on the nutrition label.
