President Barack Obama will speak to about a thousand supporters at a planned parenthood conference in Washington, DC. The organization praised the president earlier this week for his record on women's health issues.

U.S. Senators John McCain and Lindsay Graham will make remarks at a Chamber of Commerce summit on immigration reform today. Both have been pushing for a change to federal immigration laws for years-- but the new bipartisan bill still has a long way to go.

Rosalind Hills Baptist Church in Roanoke is raising money for the hungry by taking part in a 30-hour famine beginning today. They'll also participate in a "cardboard city" by sleeping in a cardboard box for the night.

The city of Salem will present it's budget for next year this morning at 8 in council chambers.

Meanwhile, Botetourt County Supervisors are having a special meeting this afternoon at 4:00 to consider the 2013 tax rate resolution and the budget for the next fiscal year. They'll meet in the circuit courthouse conference room.

The annual Little Feet Meet kicks off at Northside High school at 8:30. Elementary-age special education students from across the Roanoke Valley will come to compete in their own version of the Special Olympics.

An Arbor Day Celebration is planned for 10:00 this morning at the Vinton War Memorial, complete with a ceremonial tree planting.

The city of Salem will plant 12 October Glory Red Maple trees on the grounds of Salem High School today at 1:00.

Cave Spring High School will host its third ecology fair for Earth Day today. It's open to the public as well from 12:30-3:20 p.m. in the gym.

A Henry County school is having a special testing pep rally this afternoon at 1:30. Drewry Mason Elementary School teachers and parents have prepared surprises to help the students.
