A local school is celebrating the end of Earth Week by honoring those in Newtown, Connecticut.
Today fifth graders at Greenfield Elementary School in Botetourt County are planting a nine foot cherry tree in front of the school.
Once the tree is in the ground, it will be dedicated to the students and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The tree will be planted at 12:45 p.m.
"It will bring about all of those feelings we had that day," said Greenfield Elementary Principal Laura Camp. "Everyday we will have that tree in remembrance of what those people did."
Greenfield Elementary will also send a letter to the students and teachers at Sandy Hook, which says in part "each spring the pink blossoms will remind us of your acts of bravery, kindness, and love."
