Local Boxers Advance in Golden Gloves

   When you think about the world of boxing you more than likely don't think about Roanoke being a talent honey-hole. One Roanoke gym is doing its best to put that reputation on the ropes, and it is doing so with two state golden gloves winners.  Gator Boxing has a solid reputation on the east coast and is currently working out of Lancerlot sports complex in Vinton.

   Everett Sawin has only been in the ring for a few years, but has seen that pay off--taking the state golden gloves title this year at 132 pounds. Head Coach Maynard Quesenberry's biggest name is Steven Zaiden. The 23-year old has three consecutive golden gloves titles and has a commitment that cannot be outdone.  But as these two head for Maryland and the Golden Gloves regional competition, they know both what they face--and what is important.
