Salem Ernest "Pig" Robertson fishing rodeo

Posted: Updated:

The 62nd annual Ernest 'Pig' Robertson"Trout Fishing Rodeo kicked off at Lake Spring Park in Salem this morning.  Through donations form local businesses, nearly 2,200 fish were dumped into the pond. The event provides a safe and fun environment for kids to experience the joy of fishing.

Ernest Robertson's daughter, Karen Robertson was also involved in the event. "Some kids came up to him and said they needed a place to fish because the river was too dangerous for them" she said.  So her dad came up with the Rodeo to give kids a safe place to learn about and enjoy fishing.

Here are the remaining fishing rodeos:

April 29: Children with disabilities

May 1: Nursing home patient day

May 4: Children ages 9-12
