CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

Two North Carolina parents who lost their son six years ago in a car accident are on a million-dollar mission to make sure his name lives on.

Emmitt and Charlotte Ray's son Jason used to dress up as UNC-Chapel Hill's Ram mascot, Rameses, cheering on Tar Heel fans at games.

In 2007, Ray was walking down New Jersey's Route 4 in the hours before a UNC game in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament when he was hit and killed by an oncoming SUV.

His internal organs were donated to others.

Sunday, the Rays held a second annual brunch and silent auction, raising money to help transplant recipients with their medical bills and to rename the transplant wing at UNC Hospital after their son.

"We'll never get over Jason being gone, but his memory and his legacy will live on through this," Emmitt Ray said.

"I can't wait until we get it and I can go there and see the people getting the help," Charlotte Ray said.  "What a legacy that's going to leave for Jason."

Charlotte Ray says the Jason Ray Foundation has now raised close to $200,000 on their way to a goal of $1,000,000.  To donate, click here.
