Smith Mountain Lake water line extension to provide public water to businesses and homes

Posted: Updated:
FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA -

Franklin County is moving forward on a water line extension, that will provide public water to businesses and homes between the Westlake Town Center and the Wirtz area, along Route 122.

Construction is expected to start on the project this Summer. Mike Burnette, Economic Development Director for Franklin County, said this will provide more opportunities to recruit businesses to the area.

"A lot of times, water and sewer can keep you from getting the economic development you want, if you don't have it in place," said Burnette.

Burnette said projected growth for that area is significant, in fact they expect up to 6,900 new homes to be built in that area by the year 2030.
