On April 29, 2013, at approximately 5:51 p.m. the Grayson County Sheriff's Office received information that a known fugitive by the name of Randy Lee Anders, 32, of 2264 Grassy Creek Road was seen walking on Grassy Creek Road, near Mouth of Wilson.  Two on-duty deputies, along with two-off duty deputies responded to the area to search for Anders because of previous threats that Anders had made against law enforcement.

Deputies received additional information that led them to a neighbor's house located at 2017 Grassy Creek Road.  While searching the basement of the residence, Anders was located lying on the floor in the corner of a small room.  Anders was given commands by the deputies, but he did not comply.  Anders got to his feet and advanced toward the deputies with a handgun pointed toward them.  Deputies fired their duty weapons striking Anders several times.

Anders was flown by helicopter to Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol TN.  As of 2:30 a.m. today Anders was still in critical condition.  The Virginia State Police is investigating the shooting.

Corporal Alan Graham, along with Deputies Brad Brown, Travis Jefferson and Cody McGrady responded to the initial call.  The two Deputies that fired their duty weapons have been administratively reassigned until the investigation is complete.

Officers with the Virginia State Police, Carroll County Sheriff's Office, and the Ashe County NC Sheriff's Office responded to assist at the scene.  The Virginia State Police, Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Corporal Matthew Adams of the Independence Police Department helped cover calls in Grayson County during the incident.
