Downtown Blacksburg to celebrate Kentucky Derby Day

Posted: Updated:

The Kentucky Derby is just a few days away but if you're not taking a trip to Louisville you can catch the race and celebrate close to home.

Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. is having it first Horseshoes & Hats: A Kentucky Derby Casino Night at 130 Jackson on derby day, Saturday night from 5:00 to 10 p.m.. There will also be "fancy hat" and "best dressed gents" contests.

Horseshoes & Hats DBI is also the latest in DBI's Virginia Green events. DBI has been working to make all of its events Virginia green certified after hosting the first such event in Southwest Virginia several years ago. "This year for the first year all of our events are Virginia Green certified and that means we're doing more recycling, we're doing less on paper," explained DBI director Laureen Blakemore. "We're doing more online registration and reducing our waste and are reducing our carbon footprint for all our events."

Tickets are $35 each or $60 for a couple. Proceeds will benefit other free downtown community events. Click here to buy tickets.
