Man charged with dragging donkey behind van

LINCOLNTON, N.C. -

Lincoln County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man and accused him of dragging a donkey behind a van.
    
The Lincoln Times-News reported (http://bit.ly/16hiuRa ) that 68-year-old Richard Hudson of Vale is charged with moving animals in a cruel manner.
    
Deputies say they were called to a road last Thursday where witnesses said they saw Hudson driving his van with a donkey tethered to the trailer hitch.
    
Deputies said Hudson was walking the donkey in the road when they arrived. The donkey had suffered scrapes and other injuries to its legs and rear.
    
The donkey is being treated at the county animal shelter.
    
It was unknown if Hudson has a lawyer.
