Blacksburg Soccer Tradition Rolls On

Posted: Updated:

Legacy, tradition, Winning, and respect.  Four words that have defined Blacksburg High school boys' soccer for years.  The program has amassed 11 state championships, and his players to a man understand both the history and tradition that they carry when they put on the uniform.

The reason those kids want to be a part of the iconic program…. Is an iconic coach…. Shelley Blumenthal  is in his 21st year at the helm, and has racked up 10 of those state titles and over 400 wins in two decades.  Coach talked about the importance of continuity in having a winning tradition--which the Bruins certainly have had.  And yes…. while 21 years is longer than any of his current players have been alive, every one of those years has a direct reflection on the players her develops.

The Blacksburg boys soccer tradition is a representation of a legacy… tradition… winning and respect…. That all stems from the man the players call coach.
