The Federal Open Market Committee will make a decision on whether to raise interest rates during a two day meeting beginning in Washington today. The fed has kept its main rate at a record low of between zero and a quarter of a percent in hopes the unemployment rate will fall below 6.5 percent.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas will open to the public for tours for the first time today. The Bush library and museum includes exhibits on the key moments of Bush's eight years in the White House.

The Virginia Military Institute Museum is sponsoring a series of events observing the 150th anniversary of the last days of VMI faculty member and confederate civil war hero General Stonewall Jackson. Starting today, the exhibit, "Fourteen Days in May: T.J. Jackson's Wounding, Death and Burial," opens through September.

The Virginia Tech Hybrid Electric Vehicle team will have a send-off celebration this morning at 11:00 for the end of year two of the EcoCar2 competition. The team will also debut its re-engineered Chevy Malibu that gets 80.5 mpg gasoline equivalent and will compete in Yuma, Arizona against 15 other universities..

The historic Mountain Lake Hotel in Giles County will cut the ribbon on what will re-open as Mountain Lake Lodge after a multi-million-dollar renovation. The ceremony is this morning at 11.

Glenvar Elementary students will get pumped for sol's during a pep rally at the Roanoke County school this afternoon at 1:00.
