Join Hands Day brings people together to make difference

ROANOKE, VA -

All this week, service organizations across the country will celebrate Join Hands Day -- an annual event that brings people from all different walks of life together to help make a difference in their communities.

It's the brainchild of a group called the American Fraternal Alliance, which represents fraternal orders like the Modern Woodmen of America.

The Roanoke chapter of MWA has organized a Join Hands Day event at the Roanoke Rescue Mission Wednesday night, where volunteers will help prepare and serve meals.

Activities Coordinator Ernie Dale says what's great about the event is that brings teenagers, adults, and senior citizens together and gives them the opportunity to work side-by-side, interact, and learn from one another.

He says it leaves a lasting mark on all the participants.

"It's always rewarding in that respect," said Dale.  "That you were part of something that helped to serve people."

The group will be at the Rescue Mission Wednesday evening from 4:45pm - 8:15pm.  If you're interested in getting involved, you can call the MWA at (540) 366-2888.
