The Labor Department will release its April jobs report later this morning. Economists predict it will reflect a spring slowdown in hiring after a report on private sector job creation out earlier this week fell significantly below expectations.

The world's most advanced solar powered plane will begin its cross country journey today. The first leg will take it from San Francisco to Phoenix It's the first plane that can fly day and night without fuel.

Today marks the start of the Kentucky Derby weekend. Over the next two days, more than 100,000 people will visit Louisville's Churchill Downs race track to watch the oldest continuously contested sporting event in history.

The city of Roanoke will have an auction at noon today for more than two dozen properties that have delinquent real estate taxes, assessments for weed and trash abatement, and demolition or board up costs. It's taking place at Jefferson Center Fitzpatrick Hall.

Kids from Wasena Elementary & Grandin Court Elementary will be on an environmental field trip to Smith Mountain Lake today for a sailing adventure. They'll be in Moneta from 10 to noon.

45th Annual Smith Mountain Lake fishing tournament begins today. The three day tournament which offers prizes up to $15,000, is taking place at Gill's Creek Marina in Burnt Chimney.

Fishburn Park Elementary students will be the first to welcome more than 250 different species to center in the square's 5,500 gallon living coral reef aquarium. It's this morning at 9:30 in the atrium.

North Cross 5th graders will have the school's annual battle re-enactment today. This year, parents will also be acting and dressed in togas and cheering the gladiators this morning at 10:30.
