Lakeland middle school students arrested

Posted: Updated:
LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

Lakeland Police have arrested three students who they say planned to cause "chaos" at Sleepy Hill Middle School.

Arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder among other charges are, Zulamita Montalvo, 13.  Nicholas Christaklos, 13. And Gisselle Mendoza, 12.  Lakeland police say its lucky they caught the plot early. "I would think we're very fortunate, cuz ever if there were able to acquire some of the materials, they could have harmed themselves just by trying to experiment on how to assemble the device" said Captain Greg Policastro.

On April 2, 2013, Lakeland Police were contacted by a guidance counselor about disturbing information the counselor had seen in a student's notebook.  Upon learning of the information, the school resource officer immediately made contact with the student and began an investigation.

Through the investigation, it was learned that the student, along with two others, were making plans to cause "chaos" at the school. Police are not sure the students would actually by able to carry out their plot.  "They would have to have the means . They would have to have the money. To have the expertise in order to do that, I think is somewhat questionable"said Capt. Policastro.

Because of the actions of school personnel and the Lakeland Police Department, a potential crisis at Sleepy Hill may have been interrupted.

Police do not believe there are any other students involved.
