LYNCHBURG, VA -

A Lynchburg middle school teacher received a surprise honor Friday afternoon.

The Virginia Lottery named Dunbar Middle School's Tom Foster as one of its eight Super Teachers of 2013.

Foster won $2,000 cash, and an additional $2,000 for classroom supplies.

"Mr. Foster can be ‘caught' on any given day leading his students in his original science-based rap songs and accompanying dance moves, carrying live animals around the classroom using them to illustrate his lessons, conducting field tests around the school or using lasers in his lessons on global warming," said nominator and former colleague Renae Hoffamn, according to the lottery.

Dunbar Middle School will have another chance to win later this year.  The Virginia Lottery will hold a Facebook contest for the schools of each of the eight Super Teacher winners.  The public will vote for one of the schools to be able to win $5,000 in classroom supplies.
