CARY, N.C. -

Lyle Lovett headlined Band Together at Koka Booth Ampitheatre in Cary Saturday raising money for special needs individuals.

WNCN's Penn Holderness and Page Crawford co-hosted the event.

Band Together selects a nonprofit group to help raise money for their cause. This year the organization will help the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities in Raleigh.

The gates opened at 5 p.m. with Mac and Juice Quartet playing on the Crescent Deck.

Chatham County Line started around 6 p.m. on the main stage.

Durham's Delta Rae took the energy up a notch bringing their pop-influenced Americana to Koka Booth.

Lyle Lovett and His Acoustic Group walked out on stage around 9 p.m. to a wind chilled crowd.

Band Together raised an estimated $852,722 for the Tammy Lynn Center.

The Tammy Lynn Center started as a grass roots effort in 1969, when several parents of children with special needs decided they were not satisfied with sending their loved ones away to an institution.

"They knew they couldn't care for their children on their own, but they wanted their children to be a part of their everyday lives," said Sarah Crawford, Director of Development.

Today, nearly 400 families are served by the center. The teachers there focus on each student's ability and not their disability.

The money raised through Band Together will be used to add more technology to classrooms. The center also plans to install inline oxygen to one of their resident buildings and they also plan to expand their early intervention program.
