Virginia hearings set on stormwater regulations

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Public hearings are scheduled at several locations in Virginia this month on proposed stormwater regulations related to construction activities.

The hearings are being conducted by the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board. They are intended to address changes to the general permit for discharges of stormwater from construction activities to surface water. Commonly known as the construction general permit, it is issued every five years under the federal Clean Water Act and the Virginia Stormwater Management Act.

The current permit became effective July 1, 2009, and expires June 30, 2014.

The public meetings will be held in Richmond, Fredericksburg and Roanoke starting May 13.
