Big financial changes may be coming for the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.
The Roanoke City Council discussed plans to give the museum $500,000 over the next five years. Every year, the museum will get $100,000.
Roanoke's Mayor David Bowers says the council is trying to meet a challenge the President of Northfolk Southern issued years ago.
"Times are getting a little better and we want to accept that challenge and improve our Museum of Transportation," Mayor Bowers says.
Bowers says the museum has done a great job of bringing more visitors and now it's the city's turn to step up.
City council will vote on the funding increase next Monday.
The Federal Aviation Administration has lifted its ban on U.S. flights to Israel, which it had imposed out of concern over the risk of planes being hit by Hamas rockets.
A plane attempting to land in stormy weather crashed on a small Taiwanese island late Wednesday, killing 47 people and wrecking houses and cars on the ground.
