WENDELL, N.C. -

The two people killed in an accident Monday afternoon on U.S. 64 near Wendell Boulevard have been identified as Roxanne Swanner, 21, and Santez Keys, 29, both of Washington, N.C.

North Carolina Highway Patrol says Swanner, the driver of a 2000 Honda Civic, attempted to pass a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, driven by 72-year-old Cealous Conyers, when the Civic struck the back portion of the Aveo.

The driver of the Civic lost control of the vehicle and skid sideways, at which point a flatbed tractor trailer, driven by 42-year-old David Dunlap, struck the Civic on driver's side door.

Neither Conyers nor Dunlap was injured, but Swanner and Keys both died on scene as a result of their injuries.

An investigation into the accident is on-going.
