The Pentagon will release its annual report on sex assaults in the military today. It reportedly shows a 6% increase in reported assaults over the previous year.

A hearing will be held today for the Obama administration's motion to delay a judge's ruling that the Plan-B morning after pill should be available without a prescription for teenagers at age 15. The Food and Drug Administration wanted to make the drug more widely available but was overruled by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

The Senate Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing on border security this morning as it relates to the "Gang of Eight's" potential immigration bill. The committee hopes to examine provisions in the bill known as the "Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act."

Blacksburg Town Council will have a work session this morning at 11. Members will get an update on the business climate, look at the Blacksburg housing trust, and review several ordinances set for a public hearing next week.

The Roanoke County Board of supervisors will hold a forum focusing on K-12 issues for the Windsor Hills seat tonight at seven at Oak Grove Elementary School. Joe McNamara and Roxanne Christley are both running for the Republican nomination.

Center in the Square is hosting a preview of its grand re-opening with a ribbon cutting of its new box office this morning at 11. It will open to the public May 18th.

Banker Steel in Lynchburg will celebrate the expansion of its Rangoon Street facility with a ribbon cutting this afternoon at one.

Today is Teacher Appreciation Day, a day to encourage kids, parents, and communities to appreciate the difference good teachers make in the lives of students.
