River flooding continues, new Flood Watch

Posted: Updated:

A Flood Watch has been issued for most of the region through midnight.  More rain moving in could cause more problems.  With rivers and streams high, it will not take a lot of rain to bring levels back up again.

Rainfall of three to seven inches Wednesday has caused flooding along the James, lower Roanoke and Dan Rivers.

For the James River at Lick Run in Botetourt County, the Flood Warning has been canceled.  The river has dropped below flood stage.

For the James River at Buchanan in Botetourt County, minor flooding is expected.  The river has crested about two feet above flood stage.  The water level will fall with flooding expected to end late Wednesday afternoon.

For the James River at Holcomb Rock affecting Amherst, Bedford and Campbell Counties, minor flood is forecast.  The river will crest about a half foot above flood stage early Wednesday afternoon.  Flood will end late Wednesday afternoon.

For the Roanoke River at Brookneal in Campbell County, flooding has ended.  The river has dropped below flood stage.

For the Roanoke River at Randolph affecting Charlotte and Halifax Counties, moderate flooding is expected.  The river will rise to about three and a half feet above flood stage by Wednesday evening.  Flooding should end Thursday afternoon.

For the Dan River at South Boston in Halifax County, minor flooding is expected.  The river will rise about one foot above flood stage by early afternoon Wednesday.  The river will then fall below flood stage by early Wednesday evening.
