Thursday's mother of may finalist Shirley Mullins is on mission to make a difference in the lives of local women struggling to get back on their feet.
10 years ago, Shirley was asked if she would like to take part in Hope Builders.
It's a 12 week program where Shirley serves as a mentor to local women trying to turn their lives around.
She's coached them on parenting, budgeting and job interview skills.
"I see people my past participants who have graduated out in the public and they just run up and give me the biggest hug and smile and you know that they appreciate what you've done for them and they have improved their life," said Mullins.
The grand prize winner for our Mothers of May contest gets a makeover with the works donated by Zee's Salon.
The makeover includes the winning mother's choice of hair color, style, a manicure, pedicure and whatever else the lucky woman thinks she needs. Metro has also donated a $50 gift card and Southern States has also donated an English rose bush.
